Marcin Piekałkiewicz is a photographer and researcher based in the Netherlands. Growing up during the economic transition of the 1990s in Poland, Marcin witnessed firsthand the profound impact of capitalism on people’s lives. This upbringing ignited his interest in the economic processes that shape our realities.
Marcin’s artistic practice focuses on deconstructing the intricate layers of neoliberal capitalism, often emphasizing its social and environmental implications. He combines the observational strategies of documentary photography with the aesthetic approaches of conceptual photography, providing a nuanced perspective on how abstract economic systems manifest in tangible everyday experiences.
His work has been exhibited at various venues around the world, including the Los Angeles Center of Photography, Copeland Gallery in London, the Book Art Museum in Łódź, and the Social Center for Photography in Warsaw.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Siena and an MA in Documentary Photography from the University of South Wales, Cardiff. His unique blend of expertise allows him to investigate and visually narrate the complex interplay between economic theories and the lived experiences of individuals.
